Popham Airfield CL is in the heart of the North Hampshire countryside close to the A303 and M3 Junction 7 and the A34, easily accessible from all directions. Just 40 minutes to Southampton or Portsmouth ferries, 15 minutes to Winchester and 1 hour to London. Micheldever station is just one mile away from the site with trains to London and the South coast.
The pitches are backing onto woodland to the north of the airfield which is active 364 days of the year from 08:30 until 20:00. These are grass pitches with slight inclines and with plenty of space to roam around the airfield.
Popham has two grass runways of 900 metres should you friends want to fly in and we are home to more than 100 aircraft and two flying schools with trial flights available.
Dogs must be kept on leads at all times and there are a few safety rules offered to guests which can be
downloaded from our website
just to keep you safe. This document also has site security information you will need if you arrive after 6pm. Popham pilots are a friendly bunch and will be happy to show you round their aircraft if you ask first.
Airfields are not the quietest places in the world but there is no night flying and the CL location is in the quietest part of the estate and tucked away from the A303 traffic. A number of events take place at Popham which means we are often full to capacity so be sure to check our website for events before booking.
Nearby, Bombay Sapphire gin distillery is 5 miles away and there is a bus service from Micheldever for the tour. Blackwood Forest centre is 2 miles away with woodland walks. Highclere Castle (Downton Abbey) is 12 miles to the north. The Roman town ruins and amphitheatre at Silchester is 18 miles to the north. The south downs and the south coast are also easy to access from Popham.
We hope you enjoy a memorable stay at Popham!

This is a must visit CL site. Super large field, closely mown, with well spaced pitches backing onto a wooden area with views towards the runway. Arrangements for water, wates and rubbish are good and there is a toilet block adjacent the airport operation. We enjoyed a stroll around the airfield and met a very friendly pilot/instructor who showed us an electric plane with enthusiasm. The onsite cafe is a bonus and we can recommend the reasonably priced breakfast. Easy, friendly bookings with payment in the control tower. Good value and recommended if you are travelling near Basingstoke. Great to stay at a CL with added interest.

Booked in for 3 nights, and would have preferred longer. The pitches and site area are a good size and water and elsan points nearby and well maintained. Grass cut short. Good signposting through airfield to CL site. We were soon welcomed by the airport manager, and had a good chat with him. He also kindly showed us around the hangers and shared information about the airfield and aircraft stationed there – most interesting. The light aircraft add much interest, and there is a lovely café to enjoy some refreshments whilst watching the aircraft taking off and landing. Had wondered if road noise would be a problem, but could hardly hear it. Walked the nearby Mill Trail from Whitchurch, about 6.5 miles – very nice. What a great place to have a CL. Will return at some point. Highly recommend.

We stayed here for one night to break up our journey from Dover to Devon. Beautiful location, surrounded by countryside and abundant wildlife (rabbits, red kite, partridge). Very spacious pitches, although bear in mind there is no electric hook up, and levelling ramps are required due to slightly sloping ground. Received very warm welcome from Julia who advised us about the cafe at the adjacent airfield. The cafe provides outside seating which is a super spot to sit with a drink and watch light aircraft come and go. The airfield closes at 8pm. There is some minor noise from A303, but not noticeable at night when the site is very peaceful. I really wish we could have stayed longer.
